ESWT is quite new for erectile dysfunction (ed). The study has been found helpful for men who ed because of blood flow problems.
When a man is sexually aroused, the arteries in his penis widen and allow blood to enter. This blood makes the penis stronger. Once there is enough blood in the penis, the veins hold the blood until the male ejaculates. Then, blood returns to his body.
ESWT works by providing low-intensity shock waves, triggering “neonogenesis” in the penis. In turn, this helps new blood vessels grow from old blood vessels in a process called angiogenesis. New blood vessels allow enough blood for an erection.
In 2013, Israeli scientists published encouraging research in the journal Therapeutic Advances in Urology. In his series of studies, he found that ESWT improved erectile function for most of its study subjects. The treatment did not cause significant pain and there were no adverse reactions.
Researchers also found that the effect of ESWT can last up to two years, making it an attractive option compared to “on-demand” ad treatment, such as oral therapy, injection, and vacuum erection devices.
In 2014, the Scandinavian Journal of Urology published a study by Brothers and British researchers involving 112 men with Ed. The men were divided into two groups. One group received a low-intensity ESWT and the other received a placebo treatment.
Researchers found that low-intensity ESWT helped 57% of men in the treatment group to achieve erections appropriate for sexual intercourse.
